From the Ironworkers.org Press Room —

The Iron Workers Union applauds the Biden administration for doubling down on their promise to keep working Americans at the forefront with historic prevailing wage announcement.

The following statement is attributed to Iron Workers General President Eric Dean following a historic announcement on prevailing wages.

Washington, D.C. – The Iron Workers loudly applaud the Biden-Harris administration’s new Davis-Bacon prevailing wage rule. Prevailing wage is a powerful tool to help local workers and businesses benefit from federal construction spending, which is why it attracts bipartisan support. However, past rulemakings had gutted the law. The new rule restores Davis-Bacon and is another promise kept by President Joe Biden.

Davis-Bacon regulations were almost four decades out of date, badly undermining the government’s ability to ensure good local jobs on publicly funded projects. Construction has changed since the 1980s, and this new rule brings prevailing wage up to speed. It updates the government’s definition of the “site of work” to capture the full range of modern construction activity, sets a fair and straightforward threshold of 30% for wage determinations and gives the Department of Labor the tools it needs to enforce wage law effectively.

This update comes at the perfect time as construction revs up on President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act. We thank Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su and the administration for their hard work in making this rule a reality. With its help, ironworkers will finish the job of building the infrastructure, manufacturing and clean energy that will power the American economy.

His commitment to the labor movement means that ironworkers and their union siblings nationwide will continue to have a strong voice in their workplaces and communities.

“There’s absolutely no question that Joe Biden is the most pro-union president in our lifetimes,” said AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler. “From bringing manufacturing jobs home to America to protecting our pensions and making historic investments in infrastructure, clean energy and education, we’ve never seen a president work so tirelessly to rebuild our economy from the bottom up and middle out.”

The Iron Workers encourage all 16.5 million union members nationwide to link arms and join together in supporting President Biden’s 2024 reelection campaign. Joe Biden is the president of the working class, always has been and always will be the greatest fighter in our lifetimes for what we stand for, what we believe in and how we support our families. The fight isn’t over; we have more work to do. In 2024, we must finish the job.
