The iconic spires of the Salt Lake Temple that were originally removed for renovation in 2020 have started again to be seen atop the structure.

The final reinforcing steel pyramid was placed on Feb. 13, ahead of stonework added to the exterior.

Over 800 construction crew members celebrated the achievement, according to officials with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The spire stones were mapped, tracked and stored for cleaning “to ensure a seamless return to the original spots on top of the temple.”

Reinforcing spire steel plates began to be added again in the summer of 2023.

“It’s a joyful feeling to know that anyone can now look at the temple and say to themselves, ‘I can start to see and recognize something that is familiar to me,’” said Josh Fenn, Jacobsen Construction project executive and project director overseeing all Temple Square renovation work.
